such a practical gift
for the family
a large box of tiles
mother might just get
her basement bathroom
tiled after all
the one daddy has been
building for us for ages
along with the patio
opening that box
handling those tiles
we had a moment
or two or three
they were beautiful
white, light blue
with streaks of
silvery glitter
such a little thing
with such potential
grown up now
memories remind me
of daddy’s handiwork
the guitar, my art table
the built-ins
the unfinished closets
in our bedroom
the red shag carpet
with the pepto pink walls
heaven on earth
don’t forget the
kitchen table
round and big for projects
and all our family fights
at dinner time
here in the queen city
yeah
mosaics
isn’t it just like how life
puzzles us
uh-huh
we are always
moving pieces around
trying to fit it all together
tear it all apart, start anew
let’s start a new puzzle
maybe with some sparkle
